Backend Engineer – Geospatial Data & Distributed Systems - 20094

Assignment Description

Join a team developing geospatial data and features for Apple Maps used around the world. You will build applications and tools in a complex, data-intensive environment, solving challenging technical problems that improve the user experience.

You will take ownership of features from requirements analysis and solution design through implementation and delivery.

What You Will Work On

• Identify requirements for new features and propose suitable technical designs.
• Design, develop, and implement backend applications and tools.
• Work with large volumes of geospatial data in complex systems.
• Use programming languages such as Scala, Java, or C++ to deliver features.
• Work with distributed data-processing technologies such as Apache Spark or Flink.
• Take ownership of technical improvements and business problem-solving.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable solutions.

What You Bring

• Strong programming, system design, and problem-solving skills.
• Professional experience with Scala, Java, C++, or a similar programming language.
• Professional experience with Apache Spark or Flink.
• Ability to clarify requirements, prioritise tasks, and work independently with limited guidance.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Experience collaborating and communicating across teams.

Meritorious

• Experience in data engineering within large and complex domains.
• Experience designing and implementing APIs and REST services.
• Knowledge of frameworks such as Akka, Play Framework, or Spring.
• Experience with GIS, geospatial data, or tools such as JTS, ArcGIS, QGIS, or OpenJUMP.
