Role Summary
An experienced Data Engineer with backend development capabilities is required for a consulting assignment spanning data engineering, analytics, and reporting. The consultant will provide continuity for an existing team, taking ownership of ongoing data engineering and analytics activities across a modern cloud data stack. The role combines hands-on backend support, data platform work, reporting maintenance, and close collaboration with business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Support backend-related engineering work, including performing code reviews and contributing hands-on backend development when required.
- Take over, manage, and maintain ongoing data engineering and analytics activities.
- Ensure continuity within the team and assume additional responsibilities during team member absences.
- Maintain and support Power BI reports, including explaining how reported figures are calculated and sourced.
- Investigate and identify discrepancies between reports, datasets, and underlying data sources.
- Collaborate with business architects and stakeholders to ensure data models remain aligned with business processes and evolving needs.
Technical Stack & Requirements
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based data engineering environments using AWS S3, Snowflake, and dbt.
- Strong practical knowledge of SQL for querying, validating, and analysing data.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Power BI reports.
- Backend development experience, including the ability to review code and contribute to implementation work when needed.
- Ability to work with comparable cloud data warehouse, transformation, storage, and business intelligence tools where equivalent experience is available.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal consultant has solid practical experience in data engineering, analytics, reporting, and backend-related development. A pragmatic and independent working approach is important, together with the ability to communicate clearly with technical and business stakeholders. The role does not require an advanced specialist-level background in either backend development or business intelligence, but requires confidence in working hands-on with data, reporting requirements, and backend engineering tasks.
