Job Overview
Role Summary
An experienced PTC Windchill specialist is needed to strengthen an expert team during a major system migration. The assignment focuses on designing a robust, maintainable PLM solution for complex product and manufacturing structures, while ensuring reliable information flows between PLM and enterprise business systems.
The role requires deep technical and functional expertise in product structures, Bill of Materials (BOM) management, and manufacturing-oriented PLM. You will work across solution design and detailed implementation, with responsibility for shaping practical, scalable Windchill solutions that support both engineering and manufacturing needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Review existing solution proposals, identify risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities, and recommend technically sound solution approaches.
- Design and implement Windchill data models, object structures, working methods, and governance for complex product and manufacturing information.
- Configure and manage parts, product structures, attributes, relationships, views, revisions, lifecycle states, workflows, and change-management processes.
- Define how Engineering BOMs (EBOM) and Manufacturing BOMs (MBOM) should be structured, linked, maintained, and governed throughout product and manufacturing lifecycles.
- Develop approaches for configurable product structures, variant management, rule management, and the transformation of variants into unambiguous manufacturing structures.
- Assess when standard Windchill functionality is sufficient, when configuration is required, and when customisation is justified.
- Contribute to migration and integration activities, including data mapping, migration rules, data-quality requirements, and information ownership.
- Support validation, troubleshooting, and issue resolution in collaboration with business, engineering, IT, and relevant technical teams.
- Help establish a scalable and maintainable Windchill environment for large data volumes and extensive BOM structures.
Technical Stack & Requirements
- Deep hands-on expertise in PTC Windchill, gained through multiple complex implementations.
- Strong expertise in Windchill MPMLink and manufacturing-related BOM management, including EBOM and MBOM.
- Practical experience with Windchill solution design, configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of the Windchill object model, part management, product structures, views, revisions, lifecycles, workflows, and change management.
- Experience with configurable product structures, variant logic, and Configure-to-Order (CTO) and/or Engineer-to-Order (ETO) environments.
- Experience with data migration from legacy systems, including large data volumes and extensive product structures.
- Experience integrating Windchill with enterprise business systems is advantageous.
- Knowledge of performance, scalability, and lifecycle management of large Windchill environments is beneficial.
Qualifications & Experience
You have approximately 10 years or more of relevant Windchill experience, with documented evidence of personally designing, configuring, and implementing Windchill solutions. Depth of practical expertise and implementation experience are more important than broad PLM advisory experience or experience solely as an end user.
You are able to translate manufacturing requirements into concrete, maintainable Windchill solutions and explain technical decisions clearly to stakeholders across business, engineering, and IT. Experience from complex manufacturing industries involving mechanical or electromechanical products is advantageous, as is experience coaching and developing other Windchill specialists.
The successful consultant combines a pragmatic, hands-on implementation approach with the ability to challenge existing solution proposals when necessary. You can rapidly identify risks and common pitfalls, ask relevant questions, and demonstrate how an effective solution should be implemented in the system.
