GraphQL Solution Architect - 19493

Assignment Description

We are looking for an experienced GraphQL Solution Architect / Integration Architect to join Volvo's central API & Integration team.

The role focuses on GraphQL platform architecture, federation, supergraphs, schema governance and enterprise adoption. Unlike a backend-focused GraphQL developer, this position requires hands-on experience building and enabling GraphQL middleware platforms, federated architectures and reusable frameworks across multiple backend systems.

You will act as a technical lead, defining architecture and governance while guiding engineering teams and business units in adopting GraphQL at enterprise scale.

What You Will Work On

• Define and drive GraphQL reference architecture
• Build and support federated supergraphs and subgraphs
• Establish schema governance and versioning strategies
• Define GraphQL best practices, frameworks and implementation guidelines
• Lead architectural discussions with engineers and architects
• Drive GraphQL adoption across business units and application teams
• Collaborate with segment architects and technical stakeholders
• Support the GraphQL technical roadmap and delivery planning
• Translate high-level requirements into actionable technical work
• Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture and security policies
• Design and implement enterprise integration architectures
• Support API-led architecture and API Management solutions
• Establish scalable and robust GraphQL integration patterns
• Work with observability solutions such as OpenTelemetry and Splunk
• Guide and mentor engineering teams on GraphQL architecture and implementation

What You Bring

• 10+ years of experience in integration, software architecture or a similar technical field
• Strong experience with integration implementation and architecture
• Hands-on experience building GraphQL subgraphs and federated supergraphs from scratch
• Strong knowledge of GraphQL schema design, queries, mutations and subscriptions
• Strong understanding of GraphQL schema governance and versioning
• Experience with GraphQL platform/middleware implementation
• Experience with API-led architecture
• Experience with API Management tools
• Strong knowledge of integration architecture and enterprise integration patterns
• Experience working with OpenTelemetry and/or Splunk
• Experience working in Agile environments
• Experience from a central integration team or similar platform organization
• Strong technical leadership and stakeholder-management skills
• Excellent presentation, documentation and guideline-writing skills
• Ability to guide and mentor technical teams
