Role Summary

An experienced Integration Specialist (WSO2) is needed for a consulting assignment focused on managing, configuring, operating and further developing API management and integration capabilities in a modern cloud environment. The role combines API platform ownership with infrastructure operations across Linux-based virtual machines and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).

You will operate and maintain WSO2 API Manager across development, staging and production environments. The assignment includes management of WSO2 components such as the Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager and Traffic Manager, along with integrations to external identity and access management solutions.

A central responsibility is enabling secure, governed access to LLM-based APIs, including services from OpenAI, Azure OpenAI and Anthropic. You will also support Model Context Protocol (MCP) implementations, including MCP server configuration, client-server integrations, endpoint governance and observability through the API gateway.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate, administer, maintain and further develop WSO2 API Manager across development, staging and production environments.
• Configure and support WSO2 Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, Traffic Manager and Carbon-based platform components.
• Integrate third-party identity providers and key management solutions with WSO2 API Manager.
• Support API platform deployments, upgrades, troubleshooting, scaling, ingress configuration, persistent storage, load balancing, high-availability configurations and monitoring.
• Manage and govern LLM API access, including rate limiting, throttling, usage tracking, token-based consumption considerations and service governance.
• Configure, maintain and troubleshoot MCP servers and MCP client-server integrations.
• Support MCP endpoint security, including authentication, authorization, input validation and sandboxing.
• Investigate and resolve MCP integration issues, including tool-call failures, transport problems, schema mismatches and timeout handling.
• Define and enforce API governance, lifecycle management and security standards.
• Monitor API traffic, platform performance and reliability across distributed API gateway environments.
• Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams on CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and deployment automation.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational procedures.

Technical Stack & Requirements

• WSO2 API Manager, preferably version 3.x or 4.x, including Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, Traffic Manager and Carbon architecture.
• Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), including kubectl, Helm, node pools, networking, ingress controllers and monitoring.
• Linux-based virtual machine administration, database setup, load balancing and high-availability deployment configurations.
• Model Context Protocol (MCP), including client-server architecture, transport layers, session lifecycle, capability negotiation, server deployment and client behavior.
• LLM APIs, including OpenAI, Azure OpenAI and Anthropic, with understanding of request and response structures, streaming, rate limits and token-based billing.
• OAuth 2.0, JWT, API security and certificate management.
• CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and deployment automation practices.
• Advantageous experience includes WSO2 Identity Server, WSO2 Micro Integrator, Terraform, Bicep, API monetization, subscription-tier management, custom mediators, Synapse configurations, and MCP server development using TypeScript, Python or Java SDKs.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal consultant has at least 4 years of hands-on experience administering WSO2 API Manager, preferably versions 3.x or 4.x. Proven experience integrating third-party key managers and identity providers with WSO2 is required, as is practical experience installing, configuring and maintaining the platform on virtual machines.

You should have strong operational troubleshooting capability in distributed API gateway environments and be able to perform root-cause analysis across API, infrastructure, identity, AI and security integration layers. Experience securing and governing MCP-based integrations at scale, including routing, load balancing and monitoring multiple MCP server instances behind an API gateway, is highly advantageous. WSO2 certifications are considered beneficial.
