Assignment Description

We are looking for a Senior Kafka Platform / Integration Engineer to build, operate and continuously improve integration and messaging platforms used by multiple development teams.

The role focuses on Apache Kafka, Strimzi, HiveMQ, Kubernetes and Azure, with strong emphasis on platform stability, automation, security, observability, scalability and developer self-service.

What You Will Work On

• Design, deploy and maintain multi-cluster, multi-region Apache Kafka environments
• Work with Strimzi Operator and Kubernetes
• Administer enterprise HiveMQ MQTT brokers
• Manage Kafka, Strimzi and HiveMQ upgrade and patching cycles
• Develop and maintain Kafka Source/Sink Connectors
• Optimize Kafka partitions, topics, retention, storage and resource allocation
• Design high availability, disaster recovery and cross-region replication
• Manage Schema Registry using Avro, Protobuf and JSON Schema
• Implement Kafka ACLs, SASL, OAuth/OIDC, mTLS, SSL and RBAC
• Work with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Build observability using Prometheus, Grafana and Splunk
• Configure monitoring, dashboards and proactive alerting
• Perform RCA for platform incidents and implement preventive solutions
• Provide Tier 3 support for complex Kafka and integration issues
• Support Java / Spring Boot development teams with Kafka best practices
• Build reusable GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines
• Use ArgoCD, Helm and Infrastructure as Code
• Implement event-driven autoscaling using KEDA
• Develop developer self-service tooling for topics, schemas and credentials
• Handle platform-level incident, problem and change management
• Collaborate with Security, Architecture and development teams

What You Bring

• 4–6 years of Apache Kafka platform experience
• Strong experience with Strimzi, Kafka Connect API and KRaft
• 4–6 years of experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Strong experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Experience with PostgreSQL
• Strong Linux experience, including WSL
• Experience with GitHub Actions and/or Jenkins
• Experience with ArgoCD and Helm
• Experience with Terraform or equivalent Infrastructure as Code
• Strong Kafka cluster, performance and security knowledge
• Experience with HiveMQ
• Experience with Splunk, Grafana and Prometheus
• Experience with Fluent Bit or OpenTelemetry
• Strong operational and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable taking platform ownership
• Fluent English

Meritorious

• Experience with APIM platforms
• Experience with Azure, AWS or Google Cloud
• Cloud cost optimization experience
• Experience working within large enterprise Integration departments
• Experience with Envoy Gateway or similar ingress technologies
• Experience with KEDA and event-driven autoscaling
• Experience with API security and OAuth/OIDC integrations
