Reliability & Robustness Technical Lead – Electromechanical Product Development - 20329

Assignment Description

We are looking for a senior consultant to lead reliability and robustness activities within a complex electromechanical product development programme involving an external development partner.

You will define evidence-based reliability requirements, assess product risks, establish robustness strategies and drive design improvements through analytical and cross-functional leadership. This is a strategic and hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, system-level thinking and the ability to influence decisions without direct authority.

What You Will Work On

• Define and drive the reliability and robustness strategy for the development programme.
• Establish reliability targets, risk assessments and evidence plans.
• Develop product usage and exposure profiles.
• Lead reliability reviews and design evaluations.
• Drive failure investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Identify critical reliability risks and track mitigation activities.
• Evaluate calibration stability, drift mechanisms and service-life considerations.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and external development partners on reliability requirements and actions.
• Define practical reliability demonstration methods and acceptance criteria.
• Support verification planning and reliability-related technical decisions.

What You Bring

• At least 10 years of experience in Reliability Engineering, Product Assurance, Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience leading reliability activities during product development.
• Experience with complex electromechanical products, instruments, equipment or mechatronic systems.
• Strong understanding of Design for Reliability (DfR), reliability growth methodologies, failure mode analysis, root cause analysis and risk management.
• Experience with verification and validation.
• Experience working with suppliers, development partners or outsourced product development organisations.
• Ability to influence technical decisions across multiple functions without formal authority.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluent English, both written and spoken.

Meritorious

• Experience in diagnostics, laboratory automation, medical technology or other highly regulated industries.
• Experience with capital equipment, robotics, aerospace, semiconductor or advanced manufacturing systems.
• Knowledge of Physics of Failure methodologies.
• Experience implementing FRACAS and reliability growth programmes.
• Experience in reliability testing, life testing and robustness verification.
• Experience analysing calibration stability and performance drift.
• Experience developing reliability processes, frameworks or organisational capabilities.
