Role Summary
An experienced Test Automation and QA Engineer is needed for a consulting assignment focused on ensuring quality, reliability, and maintainability in technically complex backend, API, and integration solutions. The role operates at the intersection of test automation, API quality, cloud technology, and distributed integrations, working closely with developers, architects, and other technical stakeholders.
You will build robust automated testing solutions, improve test infrastructure, and embed quality assurance practices throughout the CI/CD delivery process. The assignment also involves contributing to test strategy, test automation architecture, API contract reviews, and improvements to API design, consistency, validation, and machine readability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated API, integration, and end-to-end tests.
- Build API test automation solutions using ReadyAPI and Groovy.
- Perform API performance testing, security testing, contract testing, and schema validation.
- Review API contracts and contribute to improved API design, validation, consistency, and long-term maintainability.
- Integrate automated tests into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines and develop and maintain YAML pipeline configurations.
- Work with Microsoft-hosted and self-hosted test and build agents, agent pools, and cloud-based integration solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across the full integration chain, including APIs, authentication, databases, applications, and underlying infrastructure.
- Use Application Insights for analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting, and follow-up.
- Manage and validate test data using SQL Server and Azure SQL, while handling data securely in accordance with GDPR-related requirements.
- Contribute to test strategy, test automation architecture, and quality assurance best practices.
Technical Stack & Requirements
- Test automation: ReadyAPI, Postman, automated API testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing.
- API and integration: REST APIs, HTTP, authentication and authorization, OpenAPI/Swagger, API contract testing, schema validation, JSON, XML, XPath, and JSONPath.
- Cloud and DevOps: Microsoft Azure, Azure DevOps, Azure Test Plans, Azure Pipelines, Azure Container Apps, Application Insights, CI/CD, YAML pipelines, and self-hosted agents.
- Data and scripting: SQL Server, Azure SQL, SQL, Groovy, PowerShell, and YAML.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate has substantial experience in test automation, particularly API and integration testing, and is comfortable working with backend systems and distributed integrations. Strong practical experience with ReadyAPI, Groovy, or equivalent API automation tooling is required, together with a solid understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, authentication, and API contracts.
You should have demonstrated experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and working in Microsoft Azure and Azure DevOps environments. The role requires the ability to investigate complex cross-functional technical issues spanning applications, APIs, databases, and infrastructure. Experience working with test data securely and in line with GDPR-related requirements is expected. An interest in improving both test automation practices and the quality of underlying API design is highly valued.
